- Q: What does this app do
A: Based on the user selecting an appropriate latitude and the closest date the app calculates a table of azimuths relating to each hour before and after local solar noon - Q: What is an azimuth
A: It is simply the bearing of an object normally from true North measured clockwise.
So if the table shows the sun azimuth as 120° this simply means that the sun should bear South East of your position. - Q: Can I use the app offline?
A: The app does not need either the internet or gps location. All calculations are internal. - Q: Why is Solar Noon important?
A: Solar Noon is when the Sun reaches its highest height and altitude in the sky. The time of your local Solar Noon however however varies with your Longitude and date. Our watch time is for convenience fixed so that noon is considered 12 am.
Solar Noon is important as at that moment the sun will bear true South or North - dependent on which hemisphere you are located. - Q: How do I use the table in the field?
A: Use the Solar Noon app to calculate your local noon time. Then enter the nearest latitude and date in this app.
If say local noon is at 12:15 then read off 1 hour before this time to find the suns azimuth at 11:15.
